Where to drive from Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and whilst you don't need a car to explore the city there are plenty of interesting places to visit which are only a short drive from Edinburgh.
Leith is a working-class port that has served Edinburgh as long as ships have been sailing up the Firth of Forth. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society here is a must for all whisky lovers. ! A trip to Lauriston Castle is also worth a visit, with its tranquil 30 acre grounds, plush interior and 16th century tower house.
Between Edinburgh and Glasgow is Stirling, an historically important centre. You can't miss the towering William Wallace monument commemorating the man immortalised by Hollywood in 'Braveheart'. Stirling Castle has a fine view of the city from its well preserved ramparts and adjacent cobbled old town.
St Andrews has medieval ruins and is the birthplace of the game of golf being home to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. It is also famous for its university and the town itself has nice shops with interesting museums to visit.
Across the Forth, to the North, is the city of Perth and beyond that the Highlands of Scotland.
