Where to drive from Barcelona
Barcelona has enjoyed a huge increase in UK short break business in the past few years, driven by its outstanding attractions and low cost airfares. With so much to do in Barcelona itself few visitors have time for excursions but if you take the time and trouble to escape the city the area has outstanding natural beauty and plenty of places to visit if you hire a car.
You can drive to one of the many elegant resorts on the Costa Dorada. One such resort is Sitges, which is only a 30 minute drive from Barcelona city centre. Or why not visit the modern resort of Salou which includes the giant theme park Universal Mediterranea.
If you fancy a spectacular drive into the mountains you should visit The Monestir de Montserrat which is dramatically placed among the weird rocky crags and ruined hermitage caves. Montserrat is 50kms north west of the city, and it certainly draws plenty of visitors. Dating from the 11th century, it attracts pilgrims to its La Moreneta (the Black Virgin).
