Barbados
Barbados is a beautiful tropical island situated in the eastern-most range of the Caribbean and it makes a fantastic quality holiday destination. On one side it has beautiful calm beaches with white sand and turquoise seas - on the other amazing cliffs and crashing waves where the Caribbean Sea collides with the Atlantic. Botanical gardens, boat trips, tours of rum distilleries - all can be enjoyed at the Barbadian relaxed pace that encourages you to take it easy. Why not visit a traditional plantation or tour the Cockspur Rum Distillery. Barbados is an easy island to find you way around and armed with a jeep or mini-moke you can have great fun exploring.
If you can drag the kids away from the beach try a trip to Atlantis Submarine to see reefs and other marine life or a visit to the Barbados wildlife reserve.
Numerous watersports, from scuba-diving to windsurfing and sailing, make Barbados the ideal destination anyone wanting to be active. Anyone feeling macho can pitch themselves against a 'Big fish' out on a deep sea fishing trip or off the water you could also try your hand at horse-riding, golf, tennis and many more....
Tired of Cod & Chips - how about barbecued flying fish, dolphin fish or red snapper! Other specialities include hot salt fish cakes and Pepperpot (a traditional well-seasoned stew). Plus delicious tropical fruits abound from coconuts to mangos and paw-paw. On the drinking front it is the evenings spent consuming run cocktails that make a trip to Barbados so memorable (or not depending on how much is drunk!). Banks Beer is considered the best brew by those in the know.
