With some of the world's most spectacular natural wonders, from the amazing Amazon Rainforest and its wildlife to the wild Iguacu Falls this huge country is a fascinating place to explore. It also has wonderful beaches even in major cities like Rio de Janeiro and in old towns such as Olinda you'll be given an insight into the colonial history and architecture of the countries recent past.
With miles of coastline and warm waters its not surprising that you can try almost any kind of watersport from sailing to diving. With plenty of peaks its also a great place for climbing and mountaineering, even in Rio you can climb the cities landmarks of Sugarloaf Mountain and Corcovado.
Influenced by Africa, the spicy Bahian dish of Feijoada - black beans simmered with dried, smoked and salted meats has become the countries national dish. Snacks such as pao de queijo, a type of cheesy bread or pastel, which is deep fried dough with a filling are great it you're feeling peckish. Tropical fruit makes is the main ingredient in most desserts and Portuguese influenced egg custards are delicious.
The National drink is caipirinha made simply with lime, sugar and plenty of ice is really refreshing.

Where to dance the night away

Brazilian's love to party so you'll never have a problem finding somewhere to go. Don't miss out on going to a local nightclub with live Brazilian music so you can hear the great rhythms and not only watch the fantastic dancing but have a go yourself.
The famous Carnival is held over the 4 days leading up to Ash Wednesday in February / March all over the country but is most spectacular in Rio, Salvador and Recife. Festa do Peao Boiadeiro in August is the world's largest rodeo, which is held in Barretos.
Jewellery made from local gemstones and gold are great value and has made the country one of the top jewellery centers in the world. Ground and roasted coffee, cotton hammocks and leather goods are also very popular as are traditional Indian handicrafts made in the northern Amazon.
