Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
Dubai is not a particularly old city and its history is centred
on its success as a trading port for both gold and oil.
Try a tour of the Creek on an abra (boat) for an hour or two. Wander
along the docks and take a ride to explore the gold souk market.
Plus if you are into unusual spectator sports try a day at the camel
races.
Dubai has a good variety of clubs with activities for both adults
and kids - including sailing and other water sports.
Watersports are popular across the whole of the UAE and golf courses
are in good supply (including the Emirates Golf Club, part of the
European PGA Tour.- but you have to be invited to play or be staying
at one of the nearby 5 star hotels!)
Try some Lebanese specialities such as Houmous and Tabouli or a
delicious Shawarma - a pitta bread stuffed with spit roast lamb
or chicken.

Dubai is known as the night-life capital of the UAE - you name,
you can find it, from Country & Western to Rock or flashing disco
lights. Buy a copy of "What's On" and hit the town!
The UAE is reputed to be the world's largest duty free shopping
zone - Real Arabian handicrafts are thin on the ground, but anything
electronic and they are likely to be selling it - although don't
expect an in-depth knowledge of the products!
