The museums and galleries of the Helsinki, the medieval castle
of Olavinlinna at Savonlinna and Kerimaki the largest wooden church
in the world.
Finland is one of the most children and family friendly countries
in the world. Kids can deliver their Christmas list direct to a
real live Santa Claus in Lapland, and enjoy the many water, theme
and amusement parks.
Wonderful open spaces for cross-country skiing, in some places
the trails are even illuminated at night, there are also some good
downhill ski areas and you can also try out snowshoeing.
In summer look out for Finnish "sushi" slices of salmon or herring
with small new potatoes which are absolutely delicious. The local
brews are pretty good; III Beer is one of the most popular but also
worth a try is the cloudberry or cranberry liqueur.

Where to dance the night away

Discos can be found in most of the large hotels throughout the
country and don't be surprised to find the bars and restaurants
full on a Wednesday night when the locals celebrate what they call
the little weekend.
In June Midsummer's Eve & Day, the longest day of the year is celebrated
with bonfires and dancing, when most people leave the cities and
leave the country.
Woolen mittens and hats, knitted in bright colours are very popular
but more unusual are the traditional handicrafts made from wood
and found reindeer horn.
