Hawaii
Go on a whale watching trip, surf with the locals on Ka'anapali
beach or head in land to explore the lush valleys and waterfalls.
Hawaii has plenty to see and this includes various museums, shopping
centres and sights.
How about exploring the Haleakala Crater - the world's largest
dormant volcano; visiting the Panaewa Rain Forest Zoo, with its
beautiful birds and animals, or taking the kids to see the acrobatic
feats of world-class wind surfers at Hookipa Beach. If that's not
enough to keep them occupied then there are also aquariums to visit
and boat trips to enjoy.
For those who want to abandon the sunbathing for a few hours there
are numerous possibilities -Horseback riding at Kualoa ranch, ocean
kayaking, or trying your hand at one of the sports for which Hawaii
is famous - surfing or windsurfing. If you prefer dry land test
your rock climbing skills, scaling the heights of the Mokuleia Wall.
Hawaii's climate blesses the islands with wonderful tropical fruits
and coconuts, as well as delicious fresh fish from the surrounding
seas. Hawaii Pacific cuisine tends to be a fusion of a number of
different cuisines and specialities include mahimahi fish, huli
huli chicken (cooked on an open broiler), manapua - Chinese style
dish using dough and saimin -asian-style noodles.

Where to dance the night away
|
Don a sequin skirt and join in with a troop of Hula dancers in
Waikiki or, for any true traditionalists, try to acquire a traditional
ti-leaf skirt and head for Paradise Cove. Waikiki and Honolulu have
numerous bars, cabarets and clubs as well as a options for dinner
cruises, theatre and dance. For something a bit different spend
an evening at the Royal Hawaiian Lu`au, which takes place at the
Pink Palace.
Molokai Makahiki celebrations at New Year, Mardi Gras celebrations
in February and various world surfing and windsurfing championships
throughout the year. Plus a number of Hula festivals including the
prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival and the Mokihana festival.
Hawaii has similar goods to the rest of the USA - with prices perhaps
a little cheaper than the UK, but not many bargains to be had. For
arts and crafts that are more traditional try something crafted
from Koa and Milo woods and don't leave Hawaii without purchasing
a lurid Hawaiian style tropical shirt!
