New Zealand
On the North Island visit one of the Museums in Auckland or Wellington,
then head north to Cape Reinga visiting the Waipoua Kauri Forest
and the Bay of Islands along the way, heading south you can abseil
through the Watimo Caves and tramp the volcanic landscape of the
Tongariro National Park. The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and Mount
Cook in the South Island are a must, as is a boat trip through Milford
Sound and further south enjoy the flora and fauna of the Catlins.
At Kaikoura they have the chance to go whale watching or swimming
with the dolphins. Kids will love a farm stay, where they can experience
life on a sheep farm or a visit to Rotorua to view the boiling mud
pools and hissing geysers.
New Zealand has got to be one of the best places in the world for
outdoor and adventure activities. Its possible in one day to walk
on glacier, go tramping through the amazing variety of scenery in
one of the many wonderful National Parks, experience the thrills
of white water rafting and round the your day with either of two
exciting aerial sightseeing trips - a bungee jump or skydive.
Green-lipped mussels and other seafood such as oysters, scallops
and crayfish are cheap and plentiful and best of all taste superb.
Lamb is of course on most restaurant menus but venison is also widely
available. New Zealand has some fine locally produced wines in particular
their Chardonnay and touring a winery makes for a very enjoyable
side trip.
Festivals and entertainment take place all over Wellington during
the Summer City Programme in January and February. The Pasifika
Polynesian Festival held in Auckland in March, is a great way to
see traditional arts and entertainment or sample some interesting
pacific food.

Where to dance the night away

Auckland and Wellington in the North Island in particular have
a variety of nightlife and evening entertainment. As it is the centre
for many of the adventure activities all year round Queenstown has
a lively bar & pub scene.
Excellent quality knitwear and sheepskins and some lovely traditional
Maori wood carvings. Perhaps the beat reminder of your trip would
be a poster, print or photography book of the amazing and varied
scenery of the country.
