Northern Territory, Australia
If you love the outdoors and nature this is this place to go -
with all types of Flora and Fauna in abundance and a huge variety
of fantastic landscapes and features. This area is also rich with
Aboriginal Culture and Art both ancient and modern
.
The world's largest crocodiles - you'll find out why no one is
swimming in that lovely water hole! Uluru (Ayers Rock) is an obvious
attraction but Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) although smaller, are equally
impressive would be may be a better place to catch the sunset away
from the crowds. There are lots of accessible Aboriginal rock-art
sites and major craft outlets in all the major cities and National
Parks.
Get up early and have a sunrise Hot-air Balloon Flight over the
outback or set out on a Bushwalk or a Camel ride. Battle with a
Barramundi - weighing in at between 3- 6kg the locals will be impressed
if you catch one of these prized native fish. Still in the water,
of the coast of Darwin is a great spot for Scuba Diving.
A Carnivore's paradise especially for those with big appetites
- you can even try a kangaroo burger or a crocodile steak. Darwin
and Alice Springs has much more variety for dining out. Beer drinking
you will find plays a major part of the culture here and is served
ice cold and of course Australia has a great selection of good-quality
wines and in the outback you may often find the red wine is chilled.
Being around at any local event or festival is a great way to socialise
and generally have a good time .How about watching the Henley- on
-Todd Regatta - racing of leg-powered bottomless boats on the (usually)
dry Todd river or Alice Springs Camel cup.
Not recommended to bring back for the friends you want to keep
- how about a few tins of witchetty grubs or honey ants, "bush tucker"
as its called down under. If you want to buy a more permanent reminder
or gift from your trip there are Opal's, Aboriginal arts and crafts
and seeds of native plants.
