Alternative Safari - Zambia
Although a game park, The South Luangwa National Park gives its
visitors remarkable views of wildlife in a true wilderness setting.
The game includes 100 strong herds of elephant and buffalo and in
the rivers large numbers of hippopotami and crocodile.
From half day trips to four-day expeditions, white water rafting
down the Zambezi River or even bungee jumping from 110m over it
- not for the fainthearted. Long distance guided hikes in the parks
and reserves are perhaps the best way to see the 'real' Africa and
game at close range.
The dry season is the best time for game viewing, August and September
being cooler than October. The rainy season however will give you
the chance to view the larger mammals and there young.
Locally made African carvings and basketwork or a chitnje, a 2m
long section of brightly patterned fabric which you will see everywhere
worn by local women, but would look great as a throw or wall hanging.
