Touring South Africa
The Kruger National Park, the Cape peninsula, lakes of the Northern
Province, the beaches and rain forest of the Eastern Cape, the villages
of the Free State and the amazing spaces of the Great Karoo. Hiring
a car will allow you access to places of the beaten track but there
are some classic rail journeys where you can relax and watch the
scenery go by.
Warm weather, beaches, wildlife, zoos, amusement and water parks
kids what more could the kids ask for - they will love it here.
Guided bush walks, hiking and mountaineering in the interior is
one of the best ways to see South Africa. On the coast there are
great diving spots and not surprisingly sailing and surfing are
very popular. You'll also find the country has a huge range of adventure
and real adrenaline activities like Shark diving and sky diving.
Braai is the South African barbecue and almost every campsite and
National Park will have one try some grilled boerewors huge mutton
and beef sausages. In a local restaurant look out for bobotie a
dish made with mince and eggs, seasoned with turmeric, curry and
herbs. Castle lager is one of the most popular beers and the wines
are superb.

Where to dance the night away
|
Bars, clubs and discos can be found in all the major cities and
towns. Capetown has a thriving club scene and the beach front at
Durban comes alive after dark.
Grahamstown holds the National Arts Festival - the largest of its
kind in Africa with drama, dance, music and more packed into two
weeks in June/July. In October the Food and Wine Festival is held
in Stellenbosh and gives you the chance to sample a wonderful range
of South African food and wines.
With such a mix of cultures, there are a wonderful variety of Arts
and Crafts such as beaded jewellery produced by the Ndebele or the
brightly coloured pots made by the Venda. Travelling to more rural
areas will enable you to see where and how the artists live and
obviously give them the benefit of buying their pieces direct.
