Meribel - France Holiday Review

Submitted by: Nikky
Holiday Date: Jan 2004

We had a really great time in Meribel. The snow was great & the rep was loads of Fun.

Mottaret is a fabulous place to stay to explore the 3 valleys ski area. We were in Val Thorens or Courchevel in no time. The apres ski in Meribel is best. The "The Rond Point" bar must be the liveliest in the Alps with terrific live bands every afternoon and the wicked "Toffee Vodka". It was THE place to go every day. At night in Meribel the Pub is best but in Mottaret where we stayed we had the best party ever on their infamous Rock Party Night with Ralph and Sonia the owners letting everyone dance on the tables (including the crazy hippy DJ who works there).

Restaurants prices are sometimes higher than the mountains but in the Rastro Bar we found a little guide book (Meribel-Unplugged). Its written by local season workers so make sure you find a copy or maybe they have a web site coz it saved us loads of money for cheap (and very good) lunches. We had lovely Lamb and pasta in the middle of Courchevel 1850 with wine for 12.80 euros each!!! Down the piste a bit they were paying 25 euros for an omelette!

In Mottaret the best value we found was the Zig Zag for lunch, (9 euros) traditional fondue with atmosphere Tuesday night at Le Rastro, (18 euros).

Wonderful candlelit 3 course delicious Dinner at Le Temps Perdu. (35 euros).

Skiing was best in Courchevel, 20 minutes away and Val Thorens 45 minutes. St Martin was a lovely village for lunch in the sun.

All in all a great place to ski and have fun. We are going back in Jan 2005 (Its cheaper and quieter on the slopes at this time).

We hope this has helped you if you go to Meribel. Do go. It's superb there.
