Croatia is situated between Central Europe and the Mediterranean. Known as the "Land of a thousand islands, it is one of the most unspoilt places in Europe in which to visit. Many of Croatia's long sandy beaches are Blue flag beaches, making them some of the cleanest in the world.
The Istrian Riviera (as it's also known) is steeped in historical and cultural influences, ranging from the Roman amphitheatre ruins to medieval towns, with winding cobbled streets and castles.
The whole area has a wide range of activities to suit everyone from vibrant nightlife to walking holidays amongst the beautiful mountain ranges, which are ready to explore.
Watersports are also available from many of the resorts main beaches, and you can have a go at anything from Water-skiing to wind surfing. Scuba diving is also highly recommended as the waters are very clear and clean in the area.
The local currency is the Kuna. There are plenty of places in which to exchange your money from your hotel to banks and the local post office. Major credit cards are also accepted in all major resorts.
Croatia has an abundance of restaurants from which to eat, serving anything from international cuisine to many of the local fish restaurants, which catch and cook over 370 different species. One local dish is called Brodet and made up from seven different types of fish.
Croatia also has a superb selection of wines, which are made in its wine region of Dalmatia.
Porec is a lively resort, with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Porec Nights Festival is worth checking out in September.
Rovinj is a traditional resort with nightlife centred around the many fish restaurants in the town.
Umag is a Medieval town with winding cobble streets and stunning scenery, which would suit anyone who likes to explore the outdoors. The town also has the best sporting facilities, where the ATP Croatian Open is held every year.
