A major golf tournament is being relocated to the island of Phuket in a bid to boost the Thai island's post-tsunami tourism industry, with all of the prize money pledged to the relief operation.
The Tiger Skins game - originally planned for the country's capital, Bangkok - is sponsored by Asia Pacific Breweries who have promised to donate the entire US$180,000 prize money to help Thailand clean up after the tsunami disaster.
The competition features four of the golf world's big-name players and is expected to draw considerable crowds, which will help revive the once-popular travellers' destination.
South Korea's top woman golfer, Pak Se-ri, will swing against Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, Denmark's Thomas Bjorn and South African Retief Goosen at the Blue Canyon Country Club on April 16 and 17.
Montgomerie said in a statement: "We really hope that our presence can give Thailand and Phuket the boost that is badly needed... The livelihoods of the people in Phuket really need our help."
Se-ri said: "I am excited to be participating in an event like this which will benefit so many people."
