Surfing's hot shots will take to the waves today, for the first event of this year's men's Quicksilver World Championship Tour in Australia.
Internet surfers looking to grab a slice of the real wave action have nearly two weeks to get themselves a flight to Brisbane : the competition at Snapper Rock's on Queensland's Gold Coast will continue until March 13th.
The World Championship Tour is the highest level of competitive surfing's two-tier system, with pros thrashing it out in the water for US$30,000 prize money.
Snapper Beach, the stretch hosting this year's event, is named after a gnarly larval outcrop that resembles a crocodile.
The aptly named Gold Coast is one of the world's top surfing destinations - but also attracts sun-worshippers keen to check out the action and take advantage of the area's vibrant nightlife.
