A new study investigating the cost of holidaying abroad has found that Thailand represents one of the best value destinations for tourists.
The cost-of-living index was carried out by National Tourist Boards on behalf of American Express, a process that involved comparing the prices of 13 items such as drinks, meals and postcards.
Of the 12 countries covered, the total cost of the items in Thailand was just £65.45, while Norway, the most expensive, cost £154.60.
Thailand has shown signs of a strong recovery despite suffering from the Boxing Day tsunami.
Celebrity singer Norah Jones recently spent her vacation there, at the Six Senses Spa on Phuket Island.
Speaking to Hello! magazine, resort manager Patrick Joyce told how the soul singer splashed out for her friends to join her, and even joined in with the evening entertainment.
"We couldn't believe it when she booked our best apartments for herself plus 15 friends and members of her management team," Mr Joyce revealed.
The spa is located on Rawai Beach, on the south-east side of the island, and prides itself on providing a stress-free stay, with stunning waterfront villas, relaxing hot stone therapy and milk baths.
