Herbert Ypma, the author of the 'Hip Hotels' series of books, has revealed his 20 all-time favourite hotels in the world.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Ypma listed his choice, which includes hotels from all over the world, from the Americas to Australia, Asia to Africa, as well as Europe and even one entry from the UK.

For many years now, Ypma's books have highlighted the trendiest hotels the world has to offer, popular among celebrity A-listers and paradise seekers alike.

In his top 20, the Bay of Fires Lodge, in Tasmania, is the furthest afield, while Asia provides exotic touches in the form of Amansara, in Siem Reap, Cambodia and the Evason Hideaway at Ana Mandara, in Vietnam

A South American flavour can be found at the Mexican Hotelito Desconocido, in Jalisco, while North Africa is represented by the Kasbah Ben Moro, in Ouarzazate, Morocco.

Babington House, in Somerset also makes the elite list, while France, Italy, Bali and the US all boast two entries of their own.
