Britons are getting more adventurous when it comes to deciding what to do on their honeymoons, according to new research from American Express Travel.
The study finds that exotic destinations are proving increasingly popular for newlyweds to jet off to.
The favourite destinations were the Maldives, Mauritius and Barbados, while there were new entries into the top ten for Thailand, Dubai, Mexico and Australia.
Brendan Walsh, senior vice president at American Express Travel, said: "The entry of four new destinations into the honeymoons top 10 indicates that couples want to try something new, rather than automatically choosing the established favourites."
"Just outside the top 10, we are seeing a steady stream of requests for safari honeymoons in East and South Africa, often combined with a beach element. Safaris are at the forefront of a move to more active honeymoon experiences and they also offer some of the most luxurious accommodation options," Mr Walsh added.
As for wedding destinations, the Caribbean dominated the top ten places to tie the knot, with Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia and Antigua all featuring.
Mr Walsh commented: "When you consider that a UK wedding is now thought to cost in the region of £15,000-£16,000, it's not surprising that one in 10 couples decide to marry abroad."
