The 62nd Venice Film Festival has commenced and a whole host of Hollywood stars are expected to attend the event that runs until September 10th.
Stars such as George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon are expected to appear in the Italian city in order to promote their respective movies.
Whether you are a film fanatic or not, Venice is a lovely place to visit, especially for couples seeking a romantic weekend break.
The city of canals has plenty to offer aside from a ride on a gondola.
The islands of Torcello and Murano are both worth visiting, the former for the wonderful Cathedral of the Lagoon, the latter for shops filled with impressive art such as Franco Schivon and the Murano Collection.
A visit to St Mark's Basilica is another priority, for the eyecatching golden mosaics and the awesome views from the top.
And away from the more touristy areas, you can get a feel for the warmth of Venice by simply meandering through the back streets of Cannareggio.
