The first new hotel to be built in Monte Carlo for nearly 80 years has been opened, with Monaco's royalty out in full force to celebrate the occasion.
According to Hello! Magazine, the new hotel, which boasts 300 rooms and spectacular sea views of the Monte Carlo coastline, also offers guests a luxurious lagoon, waterfalls and extensive spa facilities.
It has been built in the style of the French Riviera of the 1920s, harking back to the days when the destination was an intellectual melting-pot.
The opening ceremony was a glamorous affair, not least because of the presence of Prince Albert, the principality's sovereign.
He was joined by his sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, and the occasion was also marked with a flurry of fireworks and champagne.
Monte Carlo has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the most sparkling destinations the world has to offer, appealing to expensive tastes and the celebrity lifestyle.
This is helped further by its prestigious Formula One Grand Prix, and the Monte Carlo Casino, perhaps one of the most famous venues in the world to gamble the night away.
