Ibiza is famed as the party isle that never sleeps - synonymous with golden beaches, lashings of tequila, throbbing clubs and intense nightlife.
Possibly the world's most renowned fantasy destination, it is frequented by thousands of partygoers each year, including Elle Macpherson, Kylie and Danii Minogue and P. Diddy.
Having said this, there's much more to Ibiza than just booze and good times. Aside from its pulsing discos, the capital boasts some charming architecture and genuine life, but it's away from the saturation of Ibiza's big towns that things really become interesting.
Platja de ses Salines, an area to the south that takes its name from the saltpans used by Carthaginians in times gone by, boasts plentiful beaches and lapping crystal waters.
Families in search of more beaches will also be keen on the small north eastern town of San Juan, which is surrounded by stretches of golden sand and offers excellent facilities for kids along with scenic vistas.
To the west, the Cova de Can Marca, near the Port de San Miguel, constitutes a beautiful collection of caverns and offers visitors guided tours. More serious holidaymakers are bound to be enthralled by the incredible stalagmites and stalactites on view.
