More and more people are travelling to Spain, spurred on by the growth in low-cost, budget airlines which have opened up the sun, sea and sand to travellers.
The number of cheap flights to Spain has grown by 25 per cent since last year and the number of low-cost operators within Spain has reportedly grown by 160 per cent.
As a result, regional airports across the UK have experienced growth. According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), passenger figures for regional airports tripled between 1987 and 2005, with nine per cent of
that growth occurring in 2004 alone.
Travel agents can also offer fantastic flight deals as they also sell cheap charter flights and scheduled airlines as well.
Low-cost flights travel to Spain from airports throughout the UK every single day, meaning that it is now easier than ever for Britons to travel abroad on short breaks.
Euromonitor's Travel and Tourism in Spain report revealed that one to three day breaks made up 37 per cent of all trips to Spain in 2004, making them the fastest growing type of holiday.
Ian Smith, head of European operations at Halifax, said: "Flying to Spain is often quicker and cheaper than rail travel from the larger UK cities to London.
"The low-cost airlines mean that people can have shorter, more frequent trips to Spain, travelling from places close to home."
