Although many tourists would shy away from going on a guaranteed rain-filled holiday, thousands have been flocking to Goa to witness the incredible Indian monsoon.
One of nature's spectacular yet deadly manifestations, the monsoon season causes hundreds of fatalities and wide-spread devastation each year, and yet the violent tropical storms and torrential rainfall have become something of a fascination for adventurous travellers.
Hotels and restaurants have been packed in the area which, located on the west coast of India, is the country's smallest state.
The recent arrival of budget airlines travelling to India has boosted its travel industry and, now that the area has become more accessible, a growing number of visitors are travelling to Goa to experience its gorgeous beaches and, from June to late September, its monsoon rains.
One visitor told the Times that she was taking her family to experience the "excitement" of the rains.
"Saudis come to Goa to dance in the rain and show their children what rain is like," she explained.
"I want a monsoon massage and some relaxation in India. The monsoon really adds an element of excitement."
