Rio Ferdinand was obviously feeling lucky in Las Vegas as he took the opportunity of a break in the gambling city to ask his partner to marry him.
While 'romantic' may not be the first word that springs to mind when thinking about a trip to Las Vegas, the gambling city's magic certainly worked for England footballer Rio Ferdinand as his long-term girlfriend accepted his wedding proposal as the pair were taking a break there recently.
According to sources close to the pair, the 28-year old defender arrived in the gambling capital prepared with a fittingly-stunning ring with which to pop the question to Rebecca Ellison, his partner of six years.
"It was just a matter of time before he plucked up the courage to ask her to become his wife," a source from within the Manchester United camp told the Sun newspaper.
However, the couple will not be following the lead of many celebrities before them- including most recently Britney Spears- and marrying at one of the Nevada city's famous wedding chapels, complete with an Elvis impersonator conducting the ceremony.
With his proposal accepted, Rio was free to enjoy the decadent delights of Las Vegas, which offers visitors much more than just casinos.
The entertainment is legendary, with the world's biggest stars often signing up for residencies at the city's top venues, while those looking for a romantic getaway from the noise and the neon can catch a gondola and cruise down a replica of Venice's Grand Canal.
