A family walk in the park may just be an everyday pleasure for most but for Tom Cruise and his family, strolling through Berlin's Tiergarten Park offers a unique opportunity to escape the stresses of the Hollywood
lifestyle unnoticed.
The star is currently in the German capital - working on his latest movie chronicling an incident of bravery in the darkest episode from the country's history - and his wife, the actress Katie Holmes and young daughter Suri have regularly joined him to enjoy the city.
"To my great delight I've discovered that my family and I can walk in the park at night and it's not dangerous. Fantastic," Tom was quoted as saying.
In preparation for his role in 'Valkyrie', the actor would no doubt have immersed himself in the fascinating and turbulent history of Berlin, easily one of the most culturally rich cities in the world.
From the imperial grandeur of the Brandenburg Gate, the Charlottenburg Palace and the Old City Palace Square, the Cold War relics of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie to the ultra-modern parliament building (Reichstag) with its glass roof allowing the country's citizens and
curious tourists to look down on the government at work, Berlin can be seen as almost like a living museum.
However, this is also one of Europe's most buzzing capitals, famous for its musical heritage as well as the cutting-edge nightlife of the old East German half of the city.
