Star of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sir Ian McKellen, has said that he would be "very pleased" to take up the role of Gandalf for the movie version of The Hobbit.
The 68 year-old, who is currently working on a theatre production of King Lear for the Royal Shakespeare Company, is excited about the prospect of picking up his grey cape and filming the new movie.
According to Reuters, Sir Ian said: "I would be disappointed if they didn't want to have the original Gandalf."
Filming locations for the movie are yet to be announced but production companies could do worse than to suggest the magnificent countryside of New Zealand that played host to the Lord of the Rings films.
Holidaymakers who are fans of the films will be interested in taking a trip to New Zealand where tours around the scenes where the film was shot can be taken.
Visitors can get access to weapons, costumes and even themed accommodation on some of the tours which can take visitors by road and air to the movie locations.
