Andalucia, home of bullfighting, flemenco and beaches for the sun seeker has more to offer than you might imagine. You can go skiing on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada in the morning and sunbathing on the beaches of the Costa del Sol in the afternoon!
The region has a great Moorish legacy which has left its most historic cities with an exotic imprint not found anywhere else in Europe.
The Costa del Sol is now emerging with a raft of refurbished and new 4 star hotels after a period of offering tired, poor quality hotels.
So, where are the historic places to visit?
Ronda
Accessible in a day trip Ronda is perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking a gaping river gorge and boasts 1,000 year old fortifications and the country's oldest bullring.
Seville
Spain's hottest city can be very sticky in July and August, but it's still too good to miss. Don't miss the Seville Cathedral, Barrio Santa Cruz and The Alcazar.
Granada
Many come to Granada to see the legendary 9th century Alhambra literally "The Red Fort". Other places which are unmissable are The Albayzin and Sacromonte.
Jerez
A little more sedate than the other cities in Andalucia, Jerez lies at the heart of the region's sherry production. Don't miss - Gonzalez Byass, Andalucian Flamenco Centre and Cadiz - a 40 minute train ride from Jerez.
Malaga
Most visitors don't give Malaga a second look as they hurry out of the airport, but the old town is well worth a visit. The city was the main port for Arab invaders in the 11th century.
So, even the most dedicated sunseekers can enjoy a day out exploring the regions history.
