The 33-year-old, who has spent some time treading the boards in west-end musical Chicago, was snapped soaking up the sun in the island nation with a female friend.
Conspicuous by his absence, however, was current squeeze Lee Mead, the winner of talent show Any Dream Will Do, which was presented by Van Outen, reports Now magazine.
The former Big Breakfast presenter may have been celebrating on her trip to the Maldives, having reportedly signed a £1 million contract to join Jonny Vaughan on his Capital Radio breakfast show.
A popular spot for beach lovers and sun-seekers, the Maldives is an island nation comprised of more than 1,000 separate islets.
The main appeal of the archipelago is its natural beauty, with miles of white sand beaches, picturesque palm trees and crystal clear water.
The Maldives is also known for being a water-sports hotspot, with visitors regularly going scuba diving, snorkelling, water-skiing and windsurfing.
