Iron Maiden singer, Bruce Dickinson, who is a also a pilot with Astreus Airlines, has helped fly stranded tourists back from their holidays in Egypt after XL Airlines went bust last week.
Bruce Dickinson works part-time as a pilot, and he was behind the controls of a specially chartered flight from Sharm el-Sheikh to London Gatwick to take the stranded holidaymakers back to the UK.
After touching down in the UK, the 50-year-old frontman then flew to the Greek island of Kos later that day.
"I was just doing my job," the modest Worksop-born star said. "I was called out like a lot of pilots to help and I was obviously happy to do that."
Several thousand holidaymakers were stranded in Sharm el-Sheikh which is booming in popularity due to Egypt offering good quality hotels and at low prices. The weather in Egypt is also warm and sunny most of the year and also the country is outside the Euro zone which means it is not affected by the fall of the Pound against the Euro.
XL airlines offered a large number of flights to Egypt before their demise and we suspect it won't be long before other airlines step in to provide more flights to make up the lost capacity on the route.
