South Africa is aiming to provide its tourists with more information on the quality of its restaurants.
The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) has announced that many South African restaurants will now offer visitors looking for a tasty meal out a five star rating, reports the Independent Online website.
A five star rating would mean that the restaurant offers food and service that is on par with the best in international standards while a one star rating would offer the guarantee that all the minimum hygiene standards had been met.
Although the scheme is voluntary, the TGCSA is busy trying to raise awareness of the scheme throughout the country.
The council already offers grading for accommodation in South Africa, such as hotels, bed and breakfasts and country and game lodges. However, they are also looking to extend the service not only to restaurants but to transport services, travel agencies and even golf courses.
