Sep 8, 2005, 16:02

The results of an extensive online survey have revealed which resort and hotel destinations travellers deem to be the best in Asia.

The online survey was conducted in 2004 and involved the contribution of some 64,000 nominations from travellers in 162 different countries.

Out of the 3,732 hotels and resorts, the Banyan Tree Phuket in Thailand was voted the best resort, followed by Datai Langkawi in Malaysia and Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort in the Philippines.

The top three hotels were the famous Peninsula in Hong Kong, the Oriental Bangkok and the Ritz-Carlton Millenia in Singapore.

The destinations were judged on criteria such as atmosphere, value for money, staff, family suitability and dining facilities.

The results of the survey are published in a 384-page guide that contains detailed profiles of 400 hotels and resorts in 22 Asian countries.
