Advice on finding cheap holidays

With the soaring cost of oil and rapidly rising fuel prices some are saying that the era of cheap air travel is coming to an end. And there is no doubt that the cost of flights is increasing as fuel surcharges and increased government taxation takes its toll. On a typical flight to New York the basic cost could be something like £140 but once you add on fuel surcharges, air passenger duty and other taxes the basic price can increase by a further £250 per person. With the cost of "extras" being so high these increased charges are bound to have an effect on the number of people travelling. Already several US airlines are struggling and the high cost of oil could push the financial position of these airlines to critical.

It is not just airlines that are affected either. The package holiday companies will be struggling to keep their prices at a level that will not reduce demand for holidays but at the same time they have to make a profit. It is a delicate balancing act.

So with rising prices for the cost of air travel how do you find a cheap holiday or flight? Well, first of all shop around because there are still bargains to be had. Our best advice is to find a good travel agent because if they know their stuff they will recommend the best places to go and they will aslo have a vast range of different products to sell you. Independent travel agents are the best because they have access to more holidays. A good travel agent may also be able to find a cheap flight and add a cheap hotel as a separate component. There are still plenty of deals on hotels to be had. For example, 14 nights Bed & Breakfast in Marmaris in June we have been selling for a total price of only £40 for the room for two weeks. A bargain ! Add a cheap hotel like that to a cheap flight and you really do have a bargain.

With tour operators cutting capacity to match supply with demand prices in general will stay high and there may not be as many last minute bargains to be had this year. Book a holiday whilst you can !
