The Vilamendhoo Island Resort experience starts before you even set foot on the island, with a seaplane transfer from the airport. And from the sky you can really appreciate just how pretty the island is. The resort itself is the only one, and it's been completely refurbished.

Take the Beach Villas, for starters. They're set in tropical gardens, so you get a real sense of privacy. For that added luxury touch, opt for a Jacuzzi Beach Villa. Or, if al fresco living is your thing, stay in one of the brand-new Water Villas over on the sunset side of the island. They're perched on stilts in the lagoon and come with open-air rain showers, outdoor whirlpool baths and steps leading into the water.

The open-air theme carries through to the resort's two main restaurants. They're both buffet-style and housed in open-sided cabanas. What's more, this place is 24-hour All Inclusive. You'll find more menu options over at the a la carte eateries. Star billing goes to the over-the-water Asian Wok Restaurant, which serves up sizzling teppanyaki. Plus, a choice of three bars means you've got plenty of after-dinner options.

As for what else is on offer, you can be as laidback or lively as you like. There's an over-the-water spa and a house reef that offers some of the best scuba diving in the Maldives. Plus, you get taster lessons and a sunset cruise included in your stay.

Accommodation

The 184 rooms are comfortably furnished, have tropical décor and are equipped with a king size or twin beds, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, minibar, telephone, tea/coffee making facilities and some with partial open-air shower.
Garden rooms are non-beachfront with terrace.
 
Beach villas are as above but larger, suitable for families of four, in detached or semi-detached beachfront bungalows.

Jacuzzi beach villas are more spacious with walled-in outdoor area featuring a Jacuzzi for two.

Jacuzzi water villas are overwater.

Restaurants

There are two main "sister” restaurants featuring the same "all you can eat” buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, served in traditional open-air, sand floor, thatch roof dining room with a separate table for each guest room. The Funama Restaurant is for guests in the Garden Rooms and Beach Villas and the Ahima Restaurant is for guests in the Jacuzzi Beach Villas and Jacuzzi Water Villas.

Vilamendhoo also features a la carte restaurants including the over-the-water Asian Wok Restaurant, specialising in Asian cuisine and Teppanyaki; the Hot Rock Restaurant on the Sunset Bar beach, featuring seafood, steak or chicken cooked at your table on "hot rocks”; and 3 other "optional” a la carte choices; a Snack Menu at the Bars and Pools; Room Service and a selection of very special Dinners served on the Beach!
