About Bergen
Located in south-western Norway, Bergen is situated on inlets of the North Sea.
It is Norway's second largest city and a major shipping and ship building centre. The city divides into two distinct parts: the wharf area, Bryggen, now the oldest part of Bergen; and the modern centre, which stretches from behind the main square inland and down the Nordnes peninsula. The main square, the Torget, is home to a colourful fish market.
Bergen is a city with its feet in the sea, its head in the skies and its heart in the right place. Bergen is the old city with a young outlook and is the gateway to the Norwegian fjords.
